Discover the charm of the Troodos mountains, driving through picturesque
villages, dotted around the pine-clad hillsides, where the traditional way
of life continues as it has done for generations. Passing just below the
highest point on the island, mount Olympus, you will be taken to Throni
Peak to see the tomb of Archbishop Makarios, the first President of the
Republic of Cyprus. Afterwards we shall visit Kykko monastery, the most
famous and wealthiest monastery on the island, founded in 1092 by the Byzantines.
(Makarios trained here as a novice). After a break for lunch in the cool
mountain air, you will begin the homeward journey down the mountainside.
Note: Visitors to
all monasteries are requested to be properly dressed. During winter Kykko
monastery and Throni Peak are visited if the weather conditions permit,
otherwise another monastery will be visited.
