Excursions
Nicosia
(Lefkosia) is the capital of the island and has plenty to offer to its visitors.
Our tour begins with a short visit to the Cyprus Handicrafts Centre. The
tour continues by taking you along the 16th century Venetian walls, the
Famagusta (Ammochostos) Gate and the square of Liberty, to the Archbishop's
Palace where you will visit the Cathedral of St. John and the Byzantine
museum which houses the largest collection of icons in the island.
The next stop is at the recently restored Laiki
Yitonia, the so-called Old City 19th quarter, within the walls of the city.
With plenty of taverns and crafts shops to choose from, ample time is given
for shopping and a stroll around the city. After lunch (optional extra),
an opportunity is given, to visit the archaeological museum, where the richest
collection of archaeological findings are exhibited, or if you prefer you
can continue your exploration of the city. On
the return journey you will pass the Green Line which has been dividing
the city in two since the Turkish invasion in 1974. |
